Custom Domains and Your License
A common question: "Do I need to worry about my custom domain affecting my license?" The answer is no - here's why.
Custom Domains Are Separate
Your Kenso license is locked to your auto-generated Shopify domain (the one with random numbers like z6txxs-04.myshopify.com), which is completely separate from any custom domains you use.
This means:
- ✅ You can add custom domains anytime
- ✅ You can remove custom domains anytime
- ✅ You can change your primary custom domain
- ✅ You can even change your custom myshopify domain (like
mystore.myshopify.com) - ✅ None of this affects your Kenso license
How It Works
Think of it like this:
| What | Can Change? | Affects License? |
|---|---|---|
| Auto-generated domain (z6txxs-04.myshopify.com) | Never | This IS the license lock |
| Custom myshopify domain (mystore.myshopify.com) | Anytime | No |
| Custom domain(s) (mystore.com) | Anytime | No |
| Primary domain | Anytime | No |
Your auto-generated domain is permanent and unchangeable - that's why we use it!
Example Scenario
Let's say you have:
- Auto-generated domain:
z6txxs-04.myshopify.com - Custom myshopify domain:
coolvendors.myshopify.com - Custom domain:
coolvendors.com - License activated on:
z6txxs-04.myshopify.com
You can:
- ✅ Change custom myshopify to
supervendors.myshopify.com - ✅ Change to
supervendors.com - ✅ Add
vendorking.comas a secondary domain - ✅ Remove
coolvendors.comentirely - ✅ Your license continues working perfectly (it's locked to
z6txxs-04)
What Customers See
When customers visit your store, they'll see your custom domain (if you have one set as primary):
https://coolvendors.com/products/vendor-list
But behind the scenes, Kenso validates using:
z6txxs-04.myshopify.com
It's seamless - customers never know or care!
Adding a Custom Domain
Want to add a custom domain to your store? Here's how:
- Purchase a domain (Shopify, GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.)
- Go to Shopify Admin → Settings → Domains
- Click "Connect existing domain" or "Buy new domain"
- Follow the setup instructions
Your Kenso theme will continue working throughout this process.
FAQ
"I changed my custom myshopify domain and the theme stopped working"
This shouldn't happen - we use your auto-generated domain, not your custom myshopify domain. Check:
- Is your license key still in theme settings?
- Did you save after making changes?
- Try clearing your browser cache
"Do I need a custom domain for Kenso to work?"
No! Kenso works perfectly with just your auto-generated domain. Custom domains are optional (but recommended for a professional look).
"My custom domain expired - is my license affected?"
If your CUSTOM domain expired, your license is fine. Just renew the domain or set up a new one. Your license is locked to your auto-generated domain, not your custom one.
